Guilin situated in southwest China and is a world-famous tourist destination and cultural city. As an important city of China tourism, and the third largest city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi is in possession of the finest natural landscape under heaven. It is also written into the first batch of China’s famous city for history and culture. The average altitude of Guilin is 150 meters, and the topography is featured with karst. The karst landform is the important travel resources of Guilin. The historic and cultural celebrities of Guilin represented by Zhao Guanwen, Cao Ye, Jiang Mian, Lv Diaoyang, Shi Tao, Chen Hongmou, Chen Jichang, Wang Pengyun, Kuang Zhouyi, Tang Jingsong, Ma Junwu, Bai Pengfei, Bai Chongxi, Zhou Zuhuang, Liang Shuming, Huang Xianpan and Li Tianyou.

Guilin City is comprised of four districts. The downtown area is located on the riverbank of Li River. The area of railway station consisting of Guilin Railway Station and North Station of Guilin Railway, which mainly is on the south of Guilin city, is the main access to downtown area. The lake-view area of downtown area is located in the scenic area of parallel rivers and four lakes. In this area, there are many official sectors and governmental sites. Area of National Exhibition Center is located in the east side of downtown area, and is the new economic zone of Guilin.

Guilin Tourist Attractions

Guilin has more than 2000 years of history. After the unification of China by Emperor Qinshihuang, Guilin was the center of Guilin prefecture, the authoritative administrative center of southwest China. And then, Emperor Qinshihuang also opened the artificial waterway, Lingqu Canal to connect Xiang River and Li River. From then on, Guilin became the most important transportation city of ancient China to southwardly link with sea and associate northwardly with middle China. Since Song Dynasty, Guilin has been the political, economic and cultural center of Guangxi, and crowned to be the capital of Southwest China. Over the past long time, Guilin attracted innumerous scholars and artists. Today there are many historic and cultural sites remaining the glory of ancient Guilin.

Thanks to the karst topographic characteristics, there are many landmark tourist attractions featured of this highlights like Elephant Trunk Hill, Fubo Hill(Wave-Subduing Hill), Nanxi Hill, Yao Mountain, Duxiu Peak(Solitary Beauty Peak), Qixing Rock(Seven Star Rock), Reed Flute Cave(Ludiyan) ,Zengpiyan Site, Crown Rock(Guanyan), Nine Horse Mural Hill, King Town of Ming Dynasty, Ronghu Lake and Sequoia Lake. The most highlighted part of Lijiang River Scenic Area is the part of Yangshuo. Longji Terrace, Zijiang River Drift, Xinan Lingqu Canal, Maoer Mountain, Wupai River Drift, Bajiao Village and Baoding Waterfall will bring you more surprise and amazement.

Guilin is under the influence of the humid subtropical monsoon climate. Generally speaking, the weather of Guilin is mild, and the average temperature is 19.3 Celsius Degree. The best time to visit Guilin is from April to October.

Guilin cuisine is quite special and there are six streets to enjoy local cuisines: Cuisine Street of Binjiang Road (from Fubo Hill to Elephant Trunk Hill), Cuisine Street of Jiefang Xilu, Cuisine Street of Putuo Road, Guilin Cuisine Town (a site 200 meters away from Bus Station), Cuisine Street of Zhishan Road and Cuisine Street of Wangjiao (nearby Bell Tower of City Central Square). Guilin Rice Noodle(桂林米粉) is the representative of Guilin Snack, which is the highlights of Guilin cuisine.

Guilin Performance is highlighted with Impression Liu Sanjie(印象刘三姐). It is the most famous show of Guilin. The themed festivals of tourism include annual international tourism festival lasting from October to December. March-3 Festival(三月三节) is a traditional singing festival of Zhuang Ethnic Group, and it is also called Gewei Festival(歌圩节) or Gepo Festival(歌婆节), constituted of Daytime part and Nighttime part. Miao Ethnic Group New Year is a traditional festival of Miao Nationality. On that morning, local people fire firecrackers for three times in order to show auspiciousness, and the first firecracker praying for more descendants, the second for more fortune and the third for harvest. During this festival, people visit each other to send blessings, and the young men play Li Sheng (芦笙), a traditional oral instrument, and the girls wearing the beautiful clothes and headgears dance along the music. Jinfeng Festival(禁风节, Forbidding-Wind Festival) is a traditional festival in Guilin. It was said that the wind god attacked the surrounding villages when he was furious at the ancient time. Some god gave the residents the implication, and the local residents with the help of god prohibited from making sound and wind to worship the Wind God. It was really effective, and this day becomes Jinfeng Festival. The festive celebration is quite colorful, at dark, they sing the folk songs. Today, it is a carnival of local people.
